What to expect

Namibia is a vast landscape of blended beauty. Best known for its incredible desert, which fills most of the country, Namibia is a holiday destination ideal for the traveller looking for a real adventure. The vastness of the desert as well as the many things to see here, and the ever changing dunes, the spectacular hills, the mountainscapes, and the bushveld, all give Namibia that special something that has turned Africa’s best kept secret into the ultimate holiday destination. One of the most beautiful places to visit is the Khomas Region, which has scenic grassy landscapes and that authentic bushveld feel.

In the Khomas area, you can expect to see something completely unlike the rest of the desert. Here the land is lush and green and looks a lot like the Kruger National Park. The bushveld has plenty of plant and animal life, thanks to its abundance of food and water. Tourists who head to this part of the country can expect to have an authentic wildlife safari experience and you will indulge in pure relaxation that only time in the heart of Africa can provide.

Day 1

Khomas Region – Kalahari

Welcome to Namibia, an unforgettable landscape of ancient mystery.

The tour starts the moment you arrive in Windhoek. You will need to get some admin out of the way, such as exchanging money and buying an MTC telephone card, before the tour officially begins. Once the admin is done, you will be transferred from the capital to Otjombondona Kalahari Lodge. The drive will take around an hour.

Upon arrival at the lodge, you can get settled in and take some time to relax before heading off on the tour’s first exciting sundowner game drive. Along with a knowledgeable guide who knows the area well, you will be able to see all sorts of fascinating wildlife. The area is home to some 35 different game species as well as more than 95 different species of birds.

One of the greatest things about a sundowner drive is the exquisite sunsets. There is nothing quite like it on earth and while you enjoy watching the sun dip down below the horizon, you can relax with your sundowner.

After the game drive, you will head back to the lodge for dinner.

Otjimbondona Kalahari Lodge

The lodge consists of the main building and surrounds, The Manor House and four comfortable Villas.

Otjimbondona, meaning “the place where the small camel thorn trees grow” in the Herero language, was bought by the Slaney family in 1922 to farm with sheep and cattle. Wilfried and Anita, took over the farm in 2008 as the third generation of cattle and sheep farming Slaneys and are welcoming guests to their boutique lodge, Otjimbondona Kalahari.

Cradled amongst Camel thorn trees with vistas of undulating Kalahari landscape crusted in golden grass, Otjimbondona offers those seeking tranquillity, exclusivity, and luxury the ideal African retreat.

Otjimbondona is situated 120 km southeast of Windhoek, and 80 km from the Hosea Kutako International Airport, on a 3000-hectare Private Nature Reserve on the fringes of the Namibian Kalahari.

This hidden gem with its inviting Manor House and four comfortable Villas is the perfect place to start or end your Namibian adventure, or it provides a haven for those who simply wish to relax and unwind.

The main building consists of a large lounge and dining area surrounded by glass doors that open onto the outside deck to enjoy the magnificent views. The crystal clear infinity pool offers you the perfect spot to cool down on a warm summer’s day. In the adjacent kitchen, our Chef and her team lovingly prepare mouthwatering meals for our guests, using mainly locally-sourced organic farm produce.

A platform for meals under a blue sky, a fireplace to enjoy sundowners with Gin + Tonics and snacks around an open fire and the outside “boma” invites for grill evenings under the stars, all form part of the main area.

There are four carefully decorated Villas spaced far apart for absolute privacy. Each has its own lounge with fireplace for those cold winter nights, and a beautiful bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

The lounge includes a kitchenette with a Nespresso coffee machine, a kettle, and a fridge that is stocked with drinks according to the guest’s wishes. The Villas are surrounded by large glass doors to provide you with unrivaled views and close proximity to nature. Step outside onto a deck, ideal for sunbathing, and enjoy the plunge pool to cool down on a sultry Namibian summer’s day or a relaxing Jacuzzi massage. Even when you shower or soak in your bathtub, nature is right next to you.

Each villa has a “sala” with a lounger and hanging chair, perfect to unwind with a book, have an afternoon siesta or watch the rich wildlife around you. A romantic candlelight dinner can be enjoyed on your deck or on the sala.

Each Villa is beautifully decorated according to its own theme.
