Arrive at Windhoek International Airport, where you will get a transfer to Windhoek (optional needs to be booked with your car rental vehicle or separately, on own account).

You can go on your own sight-seeing through the capital of Namibia. The city is considerably enhanced by stately historic buildings in German architectural style of the turn of the century. We visit these old buildings, which lend a singular charm to the city, including the historic seat of government also known as the ‘Tintenpalast’, which means palace of ink in German. Right next to the Tintenpalast, the Christuskirche with its graceful sphere provides the city with a striking landmark. The white – walled Alte Feste, which was once a fort and now a museum, reflects the history of the country. Windhoek lies 1650m above sea level. The population of Windhoek consists of only 300 000 people which nevertheless makes Windhoek the largest city in the country.

A vast swathe of arid earth. A stretch of the Tsauchab river and the ever moving, land changing Hebron vault. This was the stage for the ancient San people to dance their adventures to each other within the safe glow of their evening fires, surrounded by their yellow grass huts. Today we suggest an early departure to Sossusvlei, the last 5 km of which are driven in 4×4 vehicles. At the Vlei you will have the opportunity to climb one of the highest sand dunes in the world. Afterwards, you can drive to the Sesriem Canyon at the entrance of the Sossusvlei area, where we spend a while exploring. In the early afternoon we return to Desert Hills Lodge.

Sossusvlei

Located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red dunes to make this one of the most scenic natural wonders of Africa and a photographer’s heaven. This awe-inspiring destination is possibly Namibia’s premier attraction, with its unique dunes rising to almost 400 metres-some of the highest in the world. These iconic dunes come alive in morning and evening light and draw photography enthusiasts from around the globe. Sossusvlei is home to a variety of desert wildlife including oryx, springbok, ostrich and a variety of reptiles. Visitors can climb ‘Big Daddy’, one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes; explore Deadvlei, a white, salt, claypan dotted with ancient trees; or for the more extravagant, scenic flights and hot air ballooning are on offer, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime champagne breakfast amidst these majestic dunes.

Sesriem Canyon

Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of the Canyon.

Enjoy a pleasant siesta, or spend the afternoon at the swimming pool and relax after an extraordinary day.

After breakfast, you drive through the amazing Namib Desert and the Namib Naukluft Park to the Namibian Coast. Your journey takes us via Solitaire and Walvis Bay.

The small desert village of Solitaire serves as an oasis in the Namib Desert and although here is not much to do or see in Solitaire, it remains nevertheless an important stop on the way to the ancient dunes of Sossusvlei. Solitaire provides the only petrol station, general store and post office between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay. Solitaire also has a small bar and is renowned for its famous apple pie- said to be the best in Namibia.

Proceed via the Kuiseb Pass en-route to the coast. You arrive in Swakopmund during the early afternoon where after we will enjoy a city tour, or get to know this quaint and lovely town on foot at our leisure. Check-in at the famous Hansa Hotel.

Early breakfast and time for leisure or you can take part in the different activities offered at the coast at own cost (boat tour, bites and brews, quad biking, living desert tour, skydiving, etc. Optional).
Levo Dolphin & Seal Tour
This dolphin and seal cruise departs at 08:30 am from the Walvis Bay Tanker Jetty and lasts for approximately four hours. The trip begins with a tour of the Walvis Bay Harbour and past the fish factories, and then on to Bird Island past the Russian Trawlers to Pelican Point where guests can view the Cape Fur Seal Colony. A variety of birds such as pelicans, flamingos, cormorants, and more can be seen en-route. Guests can snack on fresh oysters and champagne while watching the dolphins play in the tranquil waters. The boat returns to Walvis Bay Tanker Jetty at around 12:30. No afternoon trips are offered due to possible wind.

Bites & Brews Tour
This afternoon excursion explores products grown and produced in Swakopmund. At nearby farms we delve into the secrets of ancient Jojoba oil, which has recently been making waves in the cosmetic industry. Besides the Jojoba oil, guests may also try other Namibian oil. On a close by farm we visit a classic Olive farm, learn about the olives and get to taste both the olive oil and the table olives. A few minutes’ drive back to Swakopmund and we explore a coffee roaster and have to opportunity not only to learn about coffee, but to taste a few different brews. Our last stop is a local gin distillery and a craft beer brewery for some serious tasting. Not only do guests get to taste various gins and beers, but we get treated to some very local snacks prepared by well-known local chef. We allow the chef a little creative freedom but we will enjoy some truly local snacks.

After a leisurely breakfast this morning, you continue with your journey towards the southern boundary of the Etosha National Park were you will arrive in the early afternoon. You have time at leisure and can enjoy a dive into the cool waters of the pools or indulge in quality food and wine.

Early departure for your first game drive from your tour vehicle into the Etosha National Park which you will enter at the Anderson Gate.

The Etosha National Park, consisting of 22 270 sq km of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, is one of the largest parks in Africa. Its definitive feature is the Etosha Pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5000 sq km. For the greater part of the year, the pan is a bleak expanse of white cracked mud which shimmers with mirages on most days. It is seeing vast herds of game with this eerie „great white place of dry water“ as a backdrop which makes the Etosha experience unique. Mammal species are found in the park, including several rare and endangered, such as black rhino and black-faced impala. Bird species occur in the park, of which approximately one third are migratory, including the European bee-eater and several species of waders.

In the late afternoon you will exit the park at the western border at the Von Lindequist Gate to drive to the nearby Mokuti Lodge were you can enjoy the rest of the time at leisure.

Today you can enjoy a full-day game safari in your own vehicle into the Etosha National Park. You will be able to explor different waterholes and areas of the park to those you visited yesterday, leave the Park one again in the late afternoon to return to our lodge situated outside the park.

Its an early start this morning as you depart from Etosha to drive via Tsumeb and Rundu to the lodge near Divundu.

Bordering Angola, on the banks of the Okavango River in northern Namibia, the town of Rundu serves as the capital of the eastern Kavango region. Rundu is renowned for its local woodcarvers market as well as the numerous woodcarvers’ huts dotting the side of the road. The town provides a great stopover to refuel for visitors heading to Katima Mulilo as well as an excellent base from which to explore the magnificent surrounding areas. Visitors to Rundu can enjoy the beautiful surrounds including the magnificent Popa Falls and Mahangu Game Reserve. Other popular activities include great game viewing, excellent bird watching as well as kayaking on the spectacular Kavango River.

Mahango Game Reserve

It is home to a reported 99 species of including a large number of elephants, lion, leopard and a variety of antelopes including the red lechwe, sable and roan. It is also a growing interest to scientists studying the wetlands system and its flora and fauna. Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is the largest sheet of falling water. In full flood some 500 million litres of water cascade downwards at a speed of 100 meters per minute, causing a thunderous roar and towering columns of spray, hence the local name “mosi – u – tunya” meaning the smoke that thunders.

The best time to visit Sossusvlei is early morning or late afternoon when the light is ideal for photography and temperatures are cooler.

Swimming is not recommended as the water pools are often dry, but it’s a fantastic place to explore on foot.

Expect to see elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and various bird species, especially around the waterholes.

Visitors can enjoy game drives, sunset river cruises, and wildlife photography safaris.
